Once you have successfully installed Cerebro and your Child Theme in your website you will want to set up your website (add content, images, logo, etc.). The first thing you must do is go to your WordPress Dashboard > Cerebro Options > Content Groups > Get to know all about what are Content Groups and how they are useful.
Then go to WordPress Dashboard > Cerebro Options >General Options or Design Settings where you can add your logo, change your colors, add a background image and many more options. You can also add your Google Analytic’s tracking code where it says “Header Script”.
Setting Up Your Home Page (Using Marvelous Theme and The Cerebro Framework)
The content in your Home Page is edited from the widget areas located at Appearance > Widgets. Make sure to understand how widget areas work with Cerebro, you can either use them as with any other theme or use the functions that Cerebro provides for displaying different versions of your content to your segmented groups of audiences.
Setting up your slider
To edit the slider you first need to go to WordPress Dashboard > Revolution Slider and create a new slider (you may want to create different sliders for each of your Content Groups.) After you create your first slider and name it for example ” Content Group 1 Slider” you can then edit your slides by clicking the blue “Edit Slides” button, create as many slides as you want for your slider and then edit each one of your slides by clicking “Edit Slide”. After you have created your first slider, go back to WordPress Dashboard > Cerebro Options > Content Groups > and link your recently created slider with your desired Content Group using the option “Display the following slider with this group…”
You will notice there are 12 Widget areas for each content group. Each Widget area corresponds to an area of your Home Pages content as follows:
- Header Top
- Home Middle
- Home Center
- Home Bottom Left
- Home Bottom Right
- Home Bottom Center
- Footer Widget Area 1
- Footer Widget Area 2
- Footer Widget Area 3
- Footer Widget Area 4
- Sidebar 1
- Sidebar 2
These last two are for the sidebars on your pages and posts, only one sidebar will display if in “Cerebro Options > Design Settings” you select a layout that only supports one sidebar, and only the sidebar that you select will be displayed.
How to Edit or Create The Feature Boxes
When you install and activate Marvelous you will notice that 3 Tabs appear on the left vertical WordPress navigation bar, these new Tabs are: Features, Portfolios and Testimonials.
To create the feature boxes and show them in your home page you have to click on the tab “Features” and create a new post for each feature you want to display. Then go to your widget areas and add the widget called “Cerebro – Feature Boxes” to the widget area where you want to display them. You have to add one “Cerebro – Feature Boxes” for each feature. In the Marvelous demo, there are 4 features shown and they are located in the Home Center widget area.
How to Edit or Create The Why Choose us Section
Go to your widget areas and add the widget called “Cerebro – Bullet List” to the widget area where you want to display them. In the Marvelous demo they are located in Home Bottom Left. Once you add the widget to an area, you have to enter the number of bullets you want to create, click save, then you will see that some editing input sections will show up, here you enter the text you want as each bullet.
How to Edit or Create The Featured Posts
Go to your widget areas and add the widget called “Cerebro – Featured Posts” to wherever to you want to display them. In the marvelous demo they are shown in Home Bottom Right. You will see a wide variety of options here where you can choose in what order to display your posts, how many of them, from what categories, if you want to show a feature image, in what size, where, etc.
How to Edit or Create The Testimonials
Same as with the feature boxes you will see a tab called “Testimonials” in the WordPress navigation tab. Create a new Testimonial as a new post in this area, on the bottom of the normal post editing section you will see where you can enter the text for the comment and the author. Then proceed to the widget areas, add the widget called “Cerebro – Testimonials” and select the number of testimonials you want to display. In the Marvelous demo they are shown in Home Bottom Center.
How to Edit or Create Portfolio Featured Items
Same as with the feature boxes and the testimonials you will see a tab called “Portfolios” in the WordPress navigation tab. Create a new item as a new post in this area, the image for the item will be the feature image you set in that post, the title will be the one you enter as the post’s title and the description will be what you enter as the posts text.
Then go to the widget areas and add the widget called “Cerebro – Portfolio Display” to wherever you want to display your portfolio items, select the number of items you want to display. In the marvelous demo they are shown in the Home Bottom Center, below the Testimonial widget.
How to Edit Your Footer
There are four widget areas for your footer, you can use these to enter whatever content you want to display in your footer.
